According to the date, I turned 97 this year. It's only the 30th birthday I've been awake for, though. And the 6th one that I didn't worry about being sick on. Seems like longer.

Between the ages of zero and twenty-four, I had some okay birthdays and more than a few rough ones. My dad died before I was born, and I'm sure it doesn't need to be said that the ones after my mom passed were pretty tough. Couple of them over the years included a few black eyes and a busted lip. My 22nd I don't remember because I had a bad fever so bad I couldn't get out of bed. Buck never talked much about how he got me through it, but somehow he managed, even if I complained too much about all the soup he made me.

My 25th was spent on tour with the USO girls, who thought I was pulling their leg at first when I told them my birthday was July 4th. They were really nice about it after, and I appreciated having company while we watched the fireworks. Was hard not to think about Bucky being overseas, where the explosions were a lot different.

I was with him for my 26th. 1944. I'd been "Captain America" for over a year and it was a strange thing to realize. He joked about me being a late bloomer. Jerk.

And then I was in the ice. Early March 1945 until April 2012.

My 27th birthday was also my 94th. Now we're up to my 30th and 97th.

You're not supposed to talk about your birthday wish - Natasha told me that last year - but since it's been the same for two years running, maybe there's not much harm in it.

Hope to see you there next year, Buck. Would be a helluva present.
